Thriving real estate investment firm in Los Angeles is seeking a sharp Senior Accountant to play a pivotal role on the Corporate Accounting team and will strengthen controls, and support key financial decisions across a growing real estate portfolio.

This role will partner closely with senior leadership, including the Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, to ensure accurate reporting, maintain GAAP compliance, and continuously improve operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and review month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Execute and enhance SOX internal controls to ensure compliance and integrity
  • Review financial packages from property management companies (PMCOs) for accuracy and completeness
  • Oversee trial balance integrations into the general ledger
  • Partner with PMCOs to ensure adherence to GAAP and strong data quality
  • Support capital transactions such as acquisitions, dispositions, and refinances
  • Prepare and review consolidation and elimination entries
  • Analyze financial performance, including month-over-month and budget variances
  • Coordinate audits and review audited financial statements for limited partnerships
  • Prepare GAAP disclosures for annual financial reporting
  • Identify inefficiencies and lead process improvements across accounting operations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate and timely financial data
  • Support audit requests and maintain proper documentation
  • Manage complex reconciliations and large data sets with precision
  • Lead, mentor, and support offshore accounting team members
  • Resolve escalations and ensure smooth workflow continuity
  • Maintain and enhance standard operating procedures
  • Contribute to special projects and ad hoc financial analysis for senior leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience (public + industry preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including consolidations and real estate accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • Real estate or investment accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Big 4 experience is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with Yardi, FAS, or real estate systems is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail in high-volume, fast-paced environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with strong time management abilities
  • Proven ability to build and improve processes
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and business acumen
