Job Description

Responsibilities

Ares is seeking a seasoned tax professional to lead tax compliance and reporting for Real Estate and other businesses. This high-impact role offers visibility across the firm and plays a key part in supporting one of the largest and most dynamic real estate platforms in the U.S., including real estate investments, publicly traded/non-traded REITs, and other newly acquired real estate related funds.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with accounting firms and internal tax team members to oversee tax compliance and reporting for Ares real estate funds.
  • Monitoring REIT compliance processes, including earnings & profits calculations, distribution requirements, 1099-DIV and Form 1042 reporting, and quarterly and annual income and asset testing.
  • Managing the preparation of U.S. tax returns by external accounting firms and reviewing them for accuracy.
  • Coordinating with local accounting firms on non-U.S. tax reporting for Ares entities.
  • Providing the management company with timely investment vehicle reporting.
  • Offering subject matter expertise and informational support to management and other departments.

This role will also lead special projects as they arise, including company or portfolio-related M&A, operational tax matters, and the development of policies and procedures that support internal controls.

Our firm structure is flat, and the individual is expected to have an entrepreneurial “roll up your sleeves” mentality. The individual is expected to be detail oriented and able to analytically approach daily tasks.  The individual should also have a very strong sense of collaboration and be comfortable teaming with others frequently, given the multi-faceted nature of most of our tax projects and processes.

  • Exposure to non-U.S. tax reporting is preferred.
  • Experience with secondaries funds is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and quantitative skills.
