About the Role

As the Accounting Manager for Real Estate, you will oversee the accounting operations for a stable portfolio of commercial real estate properties and development projects. You’ll work cross-functionally with property managers, asset managers, and internal departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

People management experience is a must. This role will be responsible for mentoring and developing a small team of accounting professionals, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and growth-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage day-to-day accounting operations for a commercial real estate portfolio.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Interpret complex lease agreements and ensure proper accounting for tenant chargebacks and rent structures.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (Property Management, Development, Tax, Treasury, etc.) to support business objectives.
  • Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, and preparation of quarterly and annual reporting packages.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting and construction in progress (CIP) tracking.
  • Participate in the preparation and reconciliation of CAM budgets and annual tenant reconciliations.
  • Review financial statements, intercompany transactions, and lender reporting packages.
  • Drive process improvements and system optimizations within the accounting function.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with the Corporate Tax Department on tax-related deliverables.
  • Support budget and forecast development in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5–8 years of real estate accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years of direct people management.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting (CAM reconciliations, fixed assets, 1031 exchanges, etc.)
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager (GL, Cash Management, CAM, Budgeting modules, etc.)
  • Public accounting background (Big 4 or mid-tier firm) is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial modeling is a plus.
